Berlin: A green-and-intelligent digital metro train featuring embodied intelligence technology was unveiled in Berlin, Germany, on Tuesday, with Chinese rail giant CRRC saying it marks the world’s first application of such technology to metro trains.
The train was rolled out by CRRC at the opening of InnoTrans 2026, the 15th Berlin International Trade Fair for Transport Technology. Developed on CRRC’s 'VELLINK' urban rail vehicle platform, the train is equipped with multi-source sensors that form an autonomous perception system, enabling real-time track monitoring, anomaly detection, and fault warnings.
Compared with conventional metro vehicles, the train is about 18 per cent lighter and consumes over 10 per cent less energy, thanks to lightweight materials and multi-system integration, according to CRRC. Its debut marks a fresh technological breakthrough for China’s urban rail transit equipment, the company said.
Held every two years, InnoTrans is the world’s leading trade fair for rail transport technology. This year’s edition has drawn more than 3,100 exhibitors worldwide, including over 200 Chinese companies such as CRRC, China State Railway Group, and Huawei.
